Hello Artist Residencies
We offer two kinds of artist residency: invited artists and applications. We are particularly interested in working with artists and designers who want to try something new.
We will set up the residency application system soon, please watch this space. Invited Artists Sophie Buxton (Nov 2013) During her residency Sophie will be exploring the idea of using drawing as an immediate way of engaging with incidental events. As well as drawing directly onto etching plates from observation while walking around Margate, she will incorporate conversations, things dreamt and imagined during her stay into her narrative. Etching plates become containers for these varied forms of experience, bringing them into the same timeline of events Sophie's time in Margate presents an opportunity to produce a new body of work. She will be making a blog margateography.tumblr.com to show her findings, and at the same time collating a paper blog, creating a parallel timeline. You can see Sophie's work at www.anywheresoup.tumblr.com Umberto Giovannini (Oct 2013) Our first invited Artist in Residence was Umberto Giovannini. Umberto is a multi-disciplinary artist from Italy with a passion for woodcut. During his residency Umberto produced a book of woodcuts based on his travels around East Kent. At the end of his stay, Umberto also taught a woodcut workshop. Umberto is an Associate Lecturer at Centre Saint Martins and runs Opificio della Rosa, a low environmental impact printmaking studio in Montefiore, Italy. |
